My PC started giving me a blank screen or corrupt video at first startup attempt every now and then (which was progressively getting more common). I tried going from a 300W Skyhawk to a 400W Antec PS, formatted my HD and reinstalled Win98SE and it didnt work. So I decided to trade HDs with my spare PC (same model WD 30G). All of the sudden, no boot problems in EITHER PC. I like to make sure there is a pretty clear path when I remove components, so I disconnected the IDE cables and removed my Memory DIMMS and my Vid card before removing my HD. From all that I did I think the problem may not have been the mainboard, the memory, the HD or anything like that. I am thinking the problem may have just been a bad connection on the IDE cables or memory or something simple like that. If you are one of the many with the cold boot 8KHA+ problem, try reseating your cables and all and see if it works. So far, so good for me.
