I'm about to put the computer together. I have the EPOX 8KHA+ mobo and Soundblaster LIve 5.1 card. Do I need to turn off sound in the bios? Is anything required or can I just install the sound card? Thanks.

Well you dont exactly have to turn off the on-board snd. But There is no need to leave it on.

+ if you dont turn it off SND conflicts

It`s best to disable onboard sound in bios,I also disabled game and midi port address in bios as well.

lets not forget that using onboard sound also uses up cpu speed. Some boards can use as much as 100mhz to run the onboard sound also.

Damn, I didn't realiize that the onboard sound eats up so much cpu. Are you refering to the AC97' sound? I've been having inconsistent breaking up on my sound lately on my Epox-8KHAL (8KHA+ without the bells and whistles) so I'm probably either going to return the mobo or get a cheap sound card..

It depends on the board your using, dont panic and think all boards use that much cpu speed for onboard sound. Some of the higher ones use 100 mhz most wont use that much.
