Epox 8KHA + and numerous Power Supply Woes. Please help.

I just upgraded my modo to the Epox 8KHA+. I also got a Powmax 400W power supply to go along with it. It didn't work. No power up when I hot the power button. I tried my old future power PS and it worked fine.

So ok, I figure I got a bad PS. I go to FRY's and exchange with a Sparkle 300 W power supply. Same problem. No power when I hit the power button.

I don't understand this problem at all. I've been building systems for years now without a problem like this. Both of the new power supply are Approved for BOTH AMD and Pentium 4. My only hunch is that P4 compatibality is screwing up my game here, but it's only a guess.

Any thoughts ?
 
well i have an epox mobo and in the book the pins for power switch are diffrent from what actually works.

its not that model its the amd 761 version but just thought its interesting
 
Try holding the power in for 10 secs ,mine took about 5 sec before it fired up on my new Enermax PSU the first time,which now boots up as soon as I hit the power on button.

Also check you have the power switch connected right on the motherboard.
 
If you have the CMOS jumper in clear instead of normal, you won't be able to power up (learned that the hard way). Pay more attention to what it says on the board about jumper position - I understand that some of the earlier documentation was backwards from reality.
 
Thanks guys. I will try the 10 second thing when I get home tonight. About the cmos jumper, i definitely had it in the correct position as the other PS worked fine and the values were retained on each boot and also, I know how to read.

I'll post my results here.

 
Strangeness indeed. The culprit is the floopy *drive/controller/cable). I don't know which. All I know is that if I have power connected to the floopy, no power on. I thought I'd post this before working more on this in case any of you have suggestions.

 
Had the same problem. I use a 400w power supply, but 2 opticals, IDE HD, SCSI, plus everything else I had installed was gobbling up all the power. Take the power off the floppy everything works. I can actually boot with the floppy hooked up, but not always. Need a better power supply. These boards use a lot of power. I use a Maxtor 400w
 
epsilon: Sometimes you have to put the ide ribbon cable on your floppy drive backwards for it to work. It it won't go in break of the piece of the pcb blocking it with needlenose pliers. Worked for me.

There isn't a standard for the pinouts on floppy drives. So keying the end of the floppy cable that goes into the drive is a bad idea for floppy cable makers.
