hi,

to all epox 8kha+ owners with an alpha/pal 8045 ?

Did you have to modify your heatsink to fit it on the board ?

The alpha website says the heatsink touches a capacitor, is this a problem ?

greetings

(btw. the epox seems to be the only board out of a bunch the alpha seems to fit at least somehow...for all the other boards, soyo dragon, soltek(*sigh*) it wont fit.

Anyway i would be happy with the epox, too. It's a good board i think.

You MUST modify the heatsink therefore rendering the warranty useless. Your call.

you know just a few minutes ago i attached that heatsink to that board and it doesn't touch the capicitator in question (barely clears it) i may have installed things wrong ( i am no heatsink installation expert) but I am pretty sure i installed everything just right.

I personally didn't have to modify a thing. Fits on with no problems.

ok...so from what i know right now it looks like the alpha maybe would 'touch' the capacitor....but it'll fit....

Fits in mine NO problem at all, a bit tight but clears it no sweat. I am positive it is on right since my idle temp is 35c at 145-150 FSB and only got up to 40c seconds after my 3dmark2001 blast to 8156.

I fit the 8045 on my Epox with no modifications - I have no idea what these people are talking about. Granted - it's a bit tight, but it fits without modification.

Let me know if you need pics and I'll throw a few up.

A few pictures would be helpful here if it's not too much of a hassle. This is my first time installing a heatsink so I could use all the visual aid i can get. thanks. (yes, i have a alpha pal8045 & epox 8kha+ too)

There's a step by step guide for puting on the 8045 at the Alpha site.

Here's a link to the same guide at cluboc alpha 8045

Put one on a 8KHA+ today. Its a tight fit, but I filed the side of the HS anyway so it was a comfortable fit. I don't care about the warranty, and its easy to file down, quite soft.
