When using 3 sticks pc 3200 the speed defaults to 133 mhz. Using only the 2 256's It works fine or only using the 512 it works fine too. I cant get all 1 gig to be recognized at ddr 400 speed. This system is a transfer of all internals of my previous barton 2800/ asus sytem(in my sig). The mobo and a64 are both brand new. Ive been through the bios, and everything looks ok. any suggestions

Yup. This is how the motherboard is designed. EPoX is following the AMD recommendation to the letter. Basically, if you go to using two double sided sticks of RAM, then the RAM speed defaults to DDR333 and you cannot change it, no matter what. You either have to use one double sided stick, or use three single sided sticks to retain DDR400 speed.

I think the poster above you is on the right track. Personally I would but the dual channel Kingmax at newegg for 73 shipped after rebate and sell the other stuff...very nice upgrade for cheap.

He will still be in the same boat. It he plugs in more than one single double sided DIMM (ie, a 512 MB or 1 Gig one), then he will get DDR333. The best bet is to go with a single 1 Gig stick, if you have the money.

Otherwise, go with three single sided sticks (256 mb sticks are almost always single sided).

Yes, of course it will. 256 megs sticks are single sided. duh. you put in two 512 sticks like Ribbon suggested and you will drop back to DDR333. 512 megs sticks are double sided.

NO THEY ARE NOT. Just because you have chips on both sides does not make them double sided. Double sided DIMMS are 64Mx64bit, where single sided are 32Mx64bit. How they are physically laid-out vs. logically laid-out is what makes the difference. You cannot necessarily tell by looking.

Do some research and some learning. Enough said.
