I bet your board won't take the TBred...
i have a Soltek KT266A mobo.
got a 1700+ TBred to O/C it.. the board won't take it.

it's an older revision, and while the newer ones will, this one won't. what a TOTAL bummer.... god...

it showed the same symptoms as yours. infact mine managed to run a few tests.. but the machine was not very useable, glitches, crashes, probems.
eventually got to the point where i had to clear the CMOS each time to get it to boot.

put the Palomino back in and runs mint yet again.
enough proof for me.

I'm guessing that's this rig? I see you have two hard drives and two optical drives, a hot-running video card and add-in sound card. What brand and model is your power supply? Perhaps it's not quite able to keep all that stuff rolling.

I also see you have a Taisol CGK740-series heatsink, which is not approved for a 2200+ as it lacks a copper heatspreader. Along that line, tell us about your thermal-interface material too... did you try to re-use the one-use-only thermal pad that comes with the heatsink? If you switched to a thermal grease, did you remove all traces of the previous thermal pad, and what brand of thermal grease? Very critical to have a top-notch thermal interface when you've got so much heat going through such a small contact area...

The heat is not the problem!! i have watched the temp in the bios, its high 30's , which is good! I also have my bro's xp 2100 cpu and tried that and still nothing, but when i put the 1.2ghz t-bird in, it runs fine?? I have the latest bios for this motherboard?? the beeping is just one constant beep.

Ok, hmm.... What do you mean by "still nothing?" It is making it to the BIOS, or you wouldn't be able to see the temps. I checked EPoX's CPU support document and both Thoroughbred and Palomino 2100+'s are supported by the 8K7A, so it's not that.

The 8K7A reads the air temperature underneath the CPU, not the CPU temperature itself, so I'm still not ruling out the possibility that the CPU is overheating until I at least hear what kind of thermal-interface material you're using. By the time the air temperature shows a higher reading your CPU may already be way ahead of the curve and tripping the thermal protection. There's a time lag to it. On my A7V333-R, for instance, the time lag on the socket thermistor is about two minutes for full swing.

Also, try unhooking both optical drives from power and data cables, and take out all but one memory module, to reduce electrical load... easy thing to try, at least.

I am using artic silver thermal grease. I took of the thermal pad and put on a nice thin layer of artic silver. I can see the temp of my computer when i first start the computer up, It's an option that comes when u download the new bios. I will try unhooking some components and see if that works.
