Epox 8k7a+ with hard drive problems

I recently had some major issues with my system. I was running an Epox 8k7a+ on a RAID setup with two Maxtor 40GB hard drives in Raid-0 configuration. A lot of times, the Bios would not recognize one or both of the drives during the auto-detection process. One of the drives crashed, so I had to buy another, but I decided to go with a 200GB Western Digital as the master and the remaining Maxtor 40GB as a slave - no Raid configuration. I am also not running the drives through the Raid controller any longer - with it disabled in the bios. In addition, I have two CD drives on the controller as well, and a 400W power supply (I think).

This past weekend, my system started to exhibit the same symptoms - not detecting the hard disks. I reboot, and it detects them. It is almost as if they are not spinning up at the right time. Could the Maxtor HDD be causing this problem again? Could my motherboard be ready to die? Could those pesky rounded IDE cables I bought to make the system look cool be failing? I am running the most recent BIOS upgrade from Epox, and their tech support is not too easily reachable (if at all) for assistance. Are there some bios settings I should have set a certain way? Maybe a way to lock down the HDD config so that the detection process always recognizes them? I hope someone on this forum (which I have used before) is able to shed some light on this issue and help me out!

Thanks much,

Joe
