Hey guys, got a small problem. Just upgraded to an EPoX 8K7A. Please check my sig for more information. I also just got done formatting and reinstalling Win98SE. Smoothe as silk, but I can't figure out why the machine won't reboot. It'll got black and sit there, and I'm forced to power the machine down manually and turn it back on. Any ideas?

UPDATE:

Yup, it was the Netgear NIC that I had installed on my machine that was the culprit, but I'm confused on why that would be the problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to learn from this problem. Thanks!

P.S. I realize I posted this information in my last post in this thread, but I forgot about the forum's edit feature. :)

Wow, yeah I do. I've removed it (since I'm not using it) and will see if that solves my problem.
Thanks for the response, Courtland!

Zuluwarrior, I've read the link you posted a few times, still marshing through that. Thank you also.

Just in case, anyone else have any ideas? I'm thinking it might be the BIOS. I installed Win2kPro on another partition and have the same shutdown/reboot problems. BIOS flash?

It worked! I yanked out my Netgear NIC and voila! Problem fixed! But, WHY?? I would have never thought the NIC was the problem. Anyone know why? Or is it that Netgear NICs are crap?

Sidenote: the drivers for the NIC weren't even loaded for the card.

Sorry I fell asleep last night. There is a compatibility issue with Netgear NICs, and I beleive the 760 chipest, but there is deff. one with the epox, basicaly if its installed, your comp wont reboot. Sorry to see you have one, best bet is to get another nic.

Netgear NICs, model #'s fa 311, 312, & (313 also reported to me but I don't know if there is such an animal) are incompatible with amd 761 chipset MBs. Amazingly fa310 is okay. I don't know why, but it is so...

I have both the 310 and 311, and I can assure you they are completely different. 310 has a BIG processor with bunch of other small chips and resistors on it (board is bigger too) on it, while the 311 has a much smaller main processor and much simplified overall. My guess is that different main processor must have something to do with the incompatibility.
