MY probllem is is after is install the the VIA BUS MASTER PCI IDE DRIVER nothing wants to run from the CD-Rom. I get "Illegal operation" errors when the CD auto starts. I Tried exacuting from opening the disk and that did not work. Finally I skipped installing the VIA drivers and the machine is running Fine. Are these drivers necessary? The system specs are:

1gig T-bird
Epox 8K7A (non-raid)
128 mb PC2100
Radeon LE
Maxtor 30gig 7200rpm
Creative modem blaster
Enlight 7203 300 watt PS

well, i'm not very happy with the drivers coming along on the EPOX-CD.

just in case you consider a new installatio of your system, here's how i would do it:
download latest VIA 4in1-drivers version 4.33 from here
install OS
install AMD-driver from EPOX-cd and reboot
install VIA 4in1 except the AMD-driver provided within these and reboot
install VGA-card-drivers and reboot
install DirectX and reboot

you should be fine then🙂

What is the Via 4in1 driver do? What does the VIA BUS MASTER PCI IDE DRIVER do?

🙂
Daxed and confused,

Oh, and don't think the drivers will solve everything. The motherboad is still not completely stable thanks to the crap VIA southbridge. Can't wait to get one fo the dualie boards with all AMD.

Thanks wasnlos, I'm building my 8k7a+ system right now and I was just wondering what order I should do the driver installation. Thanks for reading my mind.

I thught I'd pass along that if you check the FAQ page article 1050 at Epox, they point out that you should use the default microsoft DMA drivers as long as your running win95osr2 or higher OS and that you just need to remember to check the dma box under the drives properties in the device manager.

so DAPUNISHER what your saying is that Epox recommends not using the VIA drivers if your running 95OSR2 or above?

Hmmm...anybody else second that?

The Via 4in1 Drivers provide drivers for most of the motherboard processes including, AGP, PCI, USB and IDE.
The VIA BUS MASTER PCI IDE DRIVER is just one part of the 4in1s.
For a motherboard with a non-Via northbridge (Epox 8K7A for instance) you only need 3 of the 4in1s because the AGP is AMD.

I just set up my system and used just the Win2k Via PCI busmaster driver, AMD Agp miniport and the Via USB filters. Epox site said just use the MS drivers for the rest. Same for Win98SE. Posts I read say stay
away from the Via drivers as much as possible.
