Epox 8K7A failure to boot

Hi!
I've just installed a new Epox 8K7A board in my case (300W AMD approved PS). I'm attempting to boot to set CMOS, but the machine stops during the POST, giving error code C1. This code refers to the detection of memory. The board also emits one long beep, which, according to the Epox web site indicates a memory problem. I've checked all data and power cables and they seem sound. I've tried seating the memory in SDRAM slot 1 and 2 and have still received the error code, leading me to believe that the stick of generic memory may be bad. Any thoughts on this? I hate to complain to the vendor, but if the memory is bad, I'll exchange it.
Thanks,

Stutz

I rang up the computer shop, told them the problem. They said bring it in. I did, they swapped out the RAM with a new stick and everything works now.

Best,
