I downloaded and installed the 4.37 VIA 4-in-1s. Now I get stuttering in certain games, especially in Medal of Honor and MS Flight Sim 2002. I uninstalled the drivers, but the stuttering remains. Is there any solution short of a reformat?

Athlon T-Bird 1.4
Epox 8K7A
256 MB Crucial DDR
60 GB IBM 60GXP
32 MB ATI Radeon LE (9009s)
Diamond MX300 sound
Windows 98 SE

Yeah, there is a solution; download a more recent version of the 4-in-1's
that are available; the 4.42 version. Not trying to be sarcastic here but try the latest version before you proclaim a problem. Don't forget to download and install the latest Radeon drivers immediately after you do this. I have done this recently and it really does "work". I hope this works for you.

You do not want to install the via AGP driver. Use the one from AMD since the 8K7A has an AMD northbridge.

If I'm not mistaken, the newer 4-in-1's actually "detect" the necessary drivers that you need and only install on that basis. This should be no problem.

Thanks for the link. I always got the 4-in-1s from viahardware.com, and it seems like they've fallen behind. The 4.37s are listed as the latest official driver.

Oh yeah, that's my other problem. I have the 9039s from ATI, but I get an error message when I try to install the drivers. I had the same problem with the 9009s--it seems like ATI has stopped supporting the Radeon LE, and I had to copy and paste a certain line into one of the .inf files to install the driver. Any pointers?

Not sure what video card you were referring to but AFAIK, the drivers for the Radeon can be accessed on this page. I looked at your rig and it only stated Radeon (ATI). There are definatly drivers for the Radeon 8500 LE there but I have a feeling you are talking about something else. If it is the 8500 then you are good to go because those are the ones I loaded for my stepson and they work well. With XP anyway. LMK because I know of other sources for drivers.

EDIT:Duhh, I just noticed you have 98SE and went back to look for the drivers. The "9039's" that you mentioned are there and so seem to be the latest. The release date is June 2002. If I were you I'd download them again. Possibly your previous ones were corrupted. Worth a try. Also have you made any changes in your BIOS that might be causing some trouble. Maybe a bit of poking around there might help.
There is also a "9050" driver listed there that has an even later release date than the 9039's. It is listed for ME but states it should also work for 98. Might be worth a shot too. And if all else fails, you could look under the "Previous Display Driver Versions" link there and find the older ones.

2. After installation a Finish installation window is displayed, press Finish.
3. The setup program installs the driver and .inf file and updates the system registry.
4. REBOOT the system to load the driver.

To install the driver in silent mode without prompts:

Try viaarena.com for the latest 4in1 drivers. This is the link to the 4in1s.

Looks like my post went in twice and I can't figure out how to delete it, so I'm editing it hopefully putting in something worth reading. I have the Epox 8K7A, upgraded my Win98SE partition with the latest 4in1 drivers but Win98SE still doesn't recognize my MS Intellimouse Explorer optical on any of the 4 USB ports on the box. Funny thing is it's seen fine AFAIK on the USB connectors on my Hercules GTXP soundcard's breakout box! I talked with MS support techs for hours this week and they're stumped. Well, I guess I chose the right soundcard. :D

Oh, I have the old Radeon LE...the 7200.
