Hello all new to the forums, but have always checked out anandtech for info and reviews over the years,

anyways, I have an old epox 8k5a2+ board laying around and I wanted to build a starter gaming system for my little cousin. But my question is what is the fastest processor compatible with this board.

link to pdf

here is a link that shows compatible processors.

it says: max speed of thorougbred @FSB 333 2700+

now to me that means athlonxp 2700+ with 333fsb, but the manual for the board says 266 fsb.....

i'm a n00b lol, i know it will work, if i got an xp2700+ with 333fsb but i just wanna hear someone tell me its okay....just wanna max out the board for my cousin and not hose it up and order something that won't work with it....

thanks,
bonanz

hi scrapsilicon thanks for the welcome,

I'm new to this forum, not to forums :)

I did do some searching around but i couldnt find what i was looking for, the confusing thing to me is why would a document from epox say that is compatible when the mobo is only listed as 266.

thats why i posted, just curious that it would list it as supported and its gumming up my thinking part.

but you're suggesting i just go with the fastest 266fsb i can find?

thanks again

yes on the 266..but not necessarily the fastest ..cost/performance comes into play in my opinion..anything XP1800+ or better should be fine.
ime ..I tried a Barton 333fsb on 2 different 8k5a2s and was not pleased with the results..put same proc on a kt400 board ..still not pleased..placed on my current Shuttle an35n ultra..very happy :)
