I've been specing out a new computer for the last 2 weeks. It seems after quite a bit of research that the EP-8K5A2+ is the motherboard for my needs. The reviews (I have read MANY) all point that this board is quite possibly one of the best KT333 overclocking boards available. I would to hear from other overclockers who have this board or are considering this board. How do you overclockers like this board? What kind of problems has it given you with respect to overclocking? Would you buy a second (or third) if you could? What speed/PR processor are you running stock and how high have you gone?
Comment or suggestions on my spec are also welcomed. I have some questions about my spec that I hope some people who have this board/hardware and have experimented with it might be able to answer as well.
Here's the spec:
EP-8K5A2+ (obviously)
Thermaltake A1178 chipset cooler (northbridge active cooling)
Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0 GHz)
Thermaltake Volcano 9 (A1365)
Corsair 512MB PC3200 (DDR400, CMX512-3200C2) - Yes XMS variety
MSI Ti-4600 128MB (MS-8872) + chipset cooler (Thermaltake GF4 cooler?)
+ HD, CDRW, FDD, case + PSU, mouse/kb
I want some active cooling on the northbridge so I went with the Thermaltake cooler which had the highest CFM. The idea is to try to take the northbridge out of the equation when I'm overclocking. Good idea?
I was kind of between the Vol 9 and 7. What are your recommendations?
Memory, all important memory. The reviews on this memory seem to indicate that no matter what you through at it, it keeps on ticking. Once again the idea behind the Corsair memory is to take it out of the equation when overlocking.
Concerning the video card, anyone know how the Ti-4600 line responds to overclocking? MSI uses the reference design as do most companies. I figured the GF4 chipset cooler on the card wouldn't hurt either. I don't want an ATI so don't bother; I don't play games all that often and when I do the difference between 60 and 60.1 FPS doesn't get me all juiced up.
