Epox 8k3a+ 1600+ ocd temps high? SVC GC68 and Volcano9 Tests

I oc'd my 1600+ agoia to 1753 2100+ 166fsb 1.85v core, vdimm default 2.5 I'm sure i can go faster but i'm a little concerned about my temps. All were done with 31° system When the volcano9 fan was used i had it on max rpm.

Volcano9
52° idle
61° load prime95
Epox 8k3a+

I've been running it for 2 days straight now stable. I also compared the volcano9 to the SVC GC68 stock cpu speeds 1600+
svc stock fan
idle 49°
load 58°

volcano9
45° idle
53° load

The svc with the volcano9 fan
46° idle
55° load
I got these temps using the latest bios. They seem pretty high to me. But then again i'm not used to a board that reads the diode.
BTW The bottom of the SVC heatsink was plain horrible. Some serious factory grooves etc. Also the volcano9 is going to need some lapping.

load temps under 55c are great if you can keep them there, you should be ok. also if your cpu is an agoia 9 I wouldn't expect any more speed from the cpu, no matter what the voltage.

It's an agoia y
I'm ordering the exact same hs&fan setup you are running now. I've been wanting to get my hands on one. :} I thought this Volcano9 would cool better considering the reviews.

yes but the noise of the vantec tornado close to you will drive you insane after awhile! trust me I know! I used to love loud fans but after 3months of that constant droning I gave in, but however order the SLK-800 and use your Fan from the volcano 9! That's what I recently did, I put the Thermaltake fan on my slk-800 and it still performs better than the volcano 9 with way way less noise than the bad motha vantec. here are some results

SLK-800w/Thermaltake Smartfan2@3500rpm idle 44c load 50c

SLK-800w/Thermaltake Smartfan2@5000rpm idle 42c load 48c

Still great cooling, though not as great as with the vantec fan on, but your peace of mind is worth more than temps!
Note*I resat my hs/fan yesterday when I put on the thermaltake fan, so the as3 hasn't had the full time to sink in and drop the temps another 2-4c

Edit. I also forgot to mention that sitting next to the vantec tornado fan for signifigant stretches of time WILL DAMAGE YOUR HEARING in whatever ear is closest to it, my left ear now has a wierd imbalance since I used the vantec fan, it also seems very sensitive to high pitched freqs now.

I have the same mobo/cpu setup (166mhz fsb) installed in a koolance case with an additional gpu cooler in the setup. I get temp of 35c from the case, 39c from the mobo thermistor and around 50c from the Xp's internal diode.

The svc gc68 is not good for overclocking. IT's $7, what do you expect? I would not go with the Volcano 9. All of my experience with Thermaltake products has been that they are "halfway" solutions. As long as you're paying over $20 for a heatsink, go ahead and get one that's worth your money, particularly the AX-7.

Who said i expected anything from it? I just wanted to test it myself. As for the ax7 I'll try that to.

Cruze8 thanks for the info. I'm gonna give it a try.

About how much of a drop can i expect lapping the volcano? And how smooth is that 800? Thanks

the 800 appears to be fairly smooth, you can see the lines left over from the milling, I may just end up lapping mine.

I lapped the bottom of the Volcano9 it made a nice difference.

1600+ @1753 166fsb My system temp is at 32c it's pretty hot out today.

idle 46c - 47c
load 56c - just touched 57c

This is with fresh AS3 so i'm thinking the temps will drop again slightly after 50-72 hours or so.
I don't know if putting less AS3 on made the difference, or lapping made the difference, or mabye the combo.

I'm going to unlock my other 1600 and see how far i can get the fsb, after i try out the SLK-800
