Is this supposed to be any good and is it considered one of the "quality" brands?

EPOWER TG-380 380W TAGAN SERIES

or what about this one?

EPOWER ZU-400W12 ZUMAX 400W ATX

Well... neither are really "top notch."

They're both made by Topower. The Tagan brand is generally better.

You'll note right off the bat that the Tagan has full range active PFC, while the ePower Zumax has no PFC. Also, Tagan product tends to be rated at 40°C while the Zumax is rated at 25°C. Once the Zumax is put into a PC that generally runs around 40°C, you would have to take into consideration that the PSU may only be able to put out 75% of it's advertised power.

I'm certain that there's other differences as there generally are, so if it was a toss up between the two, I would certainly take the Tagan.

Thanks for the info jonny!

Need a power supply for an single core A64 (2.6GHz), 2GB DDR1, single SATA drive, two optical drives,
and a Radeon X1900GT. The machine will get some gaming duty, but not 24/7.

Originally I was going to just put another 400-watt Fortron ($43) in there which have been working well for me, but ran across the TG-380 for only $18 new.

There is a possibility that the computer might get upgraded to a dual core later, socket 939 probably an overclocked 3800+ running about 2.5GHz.

From what I can tell the TG-380 should be fine?

Hmmm you just missed the Antec EA380 deal for $19.99 last week, but I think the Tagan is fine for your needs since your machine isn't much of a power hog.

Ordered four of the TG-380 Tagans and they arrived today.

Fancy packaging with a few extras, nice touch.

They weighed a ton, heavier than my 400-watt Fortrons which are real heavy themselves.
(These are the Fortrons that are rated out 400-watt peak, actually only a 350-watt).

First thing I noticed is they are about an inch longer then a standard size power supply.

Second thing is that they were listed as 20 + 4 connectors but they are only 20 pin. Not a big deal, I had some 20 to 24 pin adapters laying around. These power supplies are old school, they didn't have a six pin video card connector, again I have plenty of adapters.

The seem to be of good quality though, back in the day I bet they were expensive. Real quiet,
I installed them in a couple of rigs that were Fortron powered and noticed the cpu core voltage was slighty higher in the bios, so lowered it accordingly and checked for stability. Guess the Fortrons were being pushed pretty hard, they have been around for over two years and been through at least three upgrades. They are still going strong without a hitch, hopefully the Tagans can last that long.

My three rigs were all A64 single cores clocked from 2.6 to 2.8Ghz, found some cheap socket 939/3600+ dual core upgrades which arrive Friday. Plan to overclock those too, so hopefully the Tagans can hang. They are rated at 22 amps on the 12v rail, so that's an improvement over the Fortrons 18 amps.
