RED Gunner looks like your going to mount the camera on your shoulder for more easy shooting.

randay these are professional tools for professional people hence the cost. People don't complain about paying for L grade lenses or professional tools for the job. £20 for a set of tools or £20-30 for a single spanner that is built to take the day to day thrashing of a mechanic? Or just for people that want or can afford them :p

Looks awesome Kaido :D, looking forward to what they'll cost and whens the shipping. I'm going to get a HDC SD10 to record training footage etc, scarlet looks badass but it's so OTT :p but I may take a bite :p

If you're in the market for professional grade HD video, the Scarlet is an absolute bargain.

The people with more money than sense are the ones who buy a $1000 camcorder to shoot 60 minute videos of dance recitals that will occupy a storage bin in their closet for the next 20 years.

Which is most people I know. $1299 for a full camera setup - nice HD camera, crappy plastic tripod, cheap softcase, etc. - use it a few times, don't bother to setup a workflow and learn how to edit, and quit. The 1% who DO use their camera use Movie Maker, then output to a DVD from a 1080p source file. Eh, it's all about marketing, I guess. Gets the cameras sold!

I think that they really need to do is release a beginning-to-end kit with a basic tutorial DVD. Show them how to use it - on their TV screen - and include easy software that handles importing, editing, and export to Youtube, DVD, and Email. iMovie comes pretty close, but most HD camcorders record in AVCHD, which you really have to transcode in order to make it usuable. So it's kind of a mess for the consumer who wants a hassle-free movie experience.

Which the RED line of cameras is definitely not ;)

RED cameras are not for proud parents or skater kids - they're professional-grade camcorders for prosumers & professionals. At least, if you buy one for homemade Youtube videos at $3,000 a pop, you're either rich or crazy. Or both :D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the RED Gunner is a shoulder-mount, which would be awesome!

I'm really chomping at the bit for a new Steadicam...I've outgrown my Poor Man's model and would like a nice upgrade this Fall, but I want to see what the size & weight are gonna be for the Scarlet. At $3k or so, that's just a bit more saving up for over a 7D, and the 3K rez would sure be nice for anti-shake filters & cropping, which would help my "indie" projects a ton :D

I think it's going to get to the point where, for $10k, you can get yourself a pretty killer setup - RED Scarlet & a lens or two, a Steadicam, a nice dolly & track kit or a slider, and maybe an 8' or 12' jib crane in there. With a modern quad-core system, that'd sure be a lot of fun to play with :D

Final Cut Pro works fine. I think RED has some sort of conversion tool. Really just depends on what platform you want to edit on.

Heck, you could do it on a Pentium 200. The real question is, when's your deadline ;) haha...

Those are the min reqs for editing according to RED. Basically a dual-core 2.0ghz+ Intel CPU and a 7200rpm HDD.

Yeah Red stuff looks very cool. It'll be interesting to see what the 2/3" fixed Scarlet kit actually comes with for $3750!

I'm going to get a Panasonic HDC SD10 tonight after work. I can get my training videos to youtube and I didn't want tos pend £500+ and at £330 it's a good price and I'm sure it'll do more then I'll need it.

Yeah indeed, it's a sweet camera for the price and my application. Nothing fancy, P&S and upload to youtube.

I can't wait to see what RED announces for October :)

awesome - anymore clips like this?

There's some Megan Fox & Kate Beckinsdale footage posted. The Beckinsdale footage was shot on a 5K Red EPIC. There's at least one other sample like the Izzy iguana flash clip floating around, bu I can't seem to locate it...

I like also that there is a mount kit for PL, Canon, and Nikon. You can mix and match instead of just picking one format.

I saw that 2 of the shows I like to watch were shot on Red One also. I did not realize that folks were already doing weekly shoots on Red.

They used the RED in the final episodes of "ER":

The October annoucement should include all of the final details, so hopefully before Oct 31st we'll know all the specs :D

It sure doesn't look very ergonomic from a dSLR perspective, but then even the Scarlet is a professional camera, so the key is durability over comfort, I suppose.
