I guess I applied too much pressure to one of the screws when installing my PAL8045. I want to try and repair the traces, but I'm not positive on how it originally was. If anyone would be kind enough to take a pic of their board, or can edit my picture to show how the traces should run, I would greatly appreciated it!

PIC

Someone pointed me to a review site with the pic I needed. Thanks!

Speaking as someone just about to install an Alpha on his Epox 8KHA+, you scared me, and I hope someone can help you with your issue. :)

Sorry bro, you're in for a very very tough ride.

The way "we" do it (I used to work for a manufacturer of electronic circuits" when something like that happens is to scrape off the solder mask from overtop of where the trace is still intact on either end of the break. Then we take a regular piece of stranded wire, and stip off the insulation to expose the bare wire. We then fray the wire out so it's no longer twisted into one big wire.

From there, we take 1 of the strands, and solder it to either end of the break in the copper. Very precision stuff, but at the same rate we don't do this on boards with traces so small like a motherboard.

You can try, but my guess is you're hosed bro.

Bump for you so you can get a pic.

Good luck!

I want to at least give it a shot of fixing it before I junk it. The work wouldn't actually be that hard if I'm guessing right as to where I think the traces run. My only soldering experience has been from doing console modchips. This doesn't look harder than the first Dreamcast modchip that had like a gazzilion wires. :)

Wow....did you use the plastic washers? Looks like something shorted out and that shouldnot happen with the washers properly installed. I have installed/removed my PAL8045 from my 8KHA+ about a dozen times with no problems...

Yes, I did use the plastic washers. The only thing I could have done wrong is tighten the screw too much. I was bewildered to see that kind of damage as well when I first saw it.
