After about 5.5 years with the EOS 5D, I finally pulled the trigger on a MKII body. Should arrive Wednesday pm from B&H.

Looking forward to playing with LiveView and other features. Seems like all my lenses are smiling. 🙂

Cool!

Wierd timing considering but cool.

I'm tempted by a 5D, 1 , 2 or even the mk3 if/when it comes out. Almost bought a 1Ds mk1 the other day!

Timing based on availability of funds. 🙂 Maybe in a few years I'll upgrade to a MK III. LOL

you won't miss a beat with the same AF system, eh?

I kid, I kid!!

I'm itching to upgrade mine to the 5D MKIII...hopefully with improved AF

I don't expect to see MKIII on the shelf until November or later. Hmmm! When that happens, another upgrade may be fomenting. 🙂

Congrats! I love mine. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of 60 fps video. Now is it worth the upgrade to a 5DIII? idk...

It arrived this evening by Brown. This is going to take some study - the menu system is totally different. Wow! The manual will live in the baño for a few days. LOL

To get the best out of its 24mp sensor:

1. Use Neutral Picture Style or custom Picture Styles based on the Neutral one (all the other in-camera Picture Styles are Standard based.
2. Set Noise Reduction to low. It only kills color noise while keeping detail.
3. Turn off HTP and A....(I forgot the name of it and I'm lazy to get the camera out of the bag. I hope you know what I'm talking about.) It messes up exposure also giving weird color tones.

use the "joystick control AF" I use it to hit the nearest AF point to my point of focus... I have a custom picture style that is least contrast, and -2 sharpness 0 saturation, 0 color tone. This will help it get maximum dynamic range, with jpegs 🙂 otherwise, shoot RAW and forget all of the other nonsense (unless you're using CPP)

Good suggestions - will try 'em all. Will never use RAW except for experimentation - the end use does not justify it. 🙂

You never use raw?

I find it invaluable and would never consider shooting in JPEG. Being able to adjust exposure and white balance alone is worth it.

75% of all my work is for our church newsletter and website - most pics are 4x6 - website res is 1024x768 - and a lot of it is B&W. I can adjust exposure and white balance any time, but rarely need to do so.

A quick sample with the new MKII body -this is the top of a barrel cactus at the entrance to my driveway,

5D2 does tend to underexposure, which tends to people underexposing and pushing in post, which tends to exasperate the banding issues...

What you call undexposure is probably due to my reducing the gamma during resizing for Internet trannsmission. This gave me more contrast on my monitor. A lot of that is what one's eyes see. Another sample - this had a surprise for me. When I snapped the shot, I did not see the bug in the flower. 🙂

And, I just got this one looking down my driveway - no change in anything except size.
