EOS 30D Raw file question

Didn't know where to post this so thought this would be appropriate..

My buddy and I went on a holiday last week and he shot all the pics in RAW format with his Canon EOS 30D. My question is, if I use these files in a computer which does not have the EOS software installed should I be able to read the files? On my friend's comp a proprietory canon window pops up whenever he opens CS2. or do I need to convert all these pics in jpgs?

Thank you in advance

I would think that Photoshop should recognize the RAW format seeing as it's an image editing program. I'll check real quick and get back to you though.

EDIT: Yup, Photoshop supports RAW, I think you're safe using that if you want.

I use irfanview but I think it only makes use of the Canon DLLs and can not actually read CR2 files. Canon loseless format is different from the standard RAW format.

Adobe Camera Raw 3.6

Thanks, I actually had this question as well. I cannot open CR2 files in Photoshop and it's been bugging the hell out of me. I shoot in jpg and RAW though so it hasn't been enough of an issue yet that I've bothered to figure it out.

I picked up some extention tubes though over the holidays and want to do some macro work this weekend though so now would be a perfect time to play around with it.
