Well with RadioShack they have no hassle returns for 30 days. If it doesn't work for you take it back.

if you mean the gold box coupon, he can't send it to you, they change daily, it's a different deal (out of 10) and you have 60 minutes to decide if you want it or not, usually they suck but every once in awhile there is a good one, but they differ for everyone

I read several glowing reviews of the XJ2000. Didn't search for the XJ2500, but the comparable Jan-Air or whatever costs a fortune. And TurtleMan, if you're buying by the looks, Sharper Image will love you :) They sell overpriced, nice-looking junk :)

Yeah, the added ozone is a little weird, but just don't point it at you. But I guess you can set it to "LOW" if you want. btw, the power setting, I believe, adjust the level of ionizing, not the fan speed.

I have yet to really test it for a long period of time to see what it collects. I'll get back to you all on this later this week.

If you have any questions about this model before buying it, just post it - I'll try to help you out.

Hey spoon805,

Got an update on the Environizer you bought?

I want an air purifier but am torn between HEPA and an ionizer... Don't really want the hassle and expense of changing and buying new filters...but all the talk about ozone is freaking me out. I guess I'm leaning towards a HEPA filter, but don't know where to start looking. Any one out there have a HEPA that they just absolutely love?

Thanks.

The ionizer does do what its suppose to do, interms of trapping particles and what not. Its pretty disgusting when you clean it, as you realize all the crap that is in the air.

However, recently, I have been using it less because I think the ozone gets to me sometimes. But this doesn't mean I don't have it ON when I'm home. It just means I utilize the MED and LOW settings when I'm around, and only HIGH when it gets bad in the kitchen or if I'm away.

But you also have to understand that I live in a small college condo, only 400 sq ft total. So I'm sure the ozone accumulates a lot more at my place than maybe yours.

But as far as build-quality goes, I have nothing negative to report right now, which is a good thing.

If you have any specific questions, go ahead.

It looks like Radio Shack B&M is offering a 10% discount if you sign up for their card. I just got one of the smaller Environizer units tonight for $99.99-$10 discount. They said that these things are flying off the shelves. It looks like this 10% off is Tuesday (today) only, but the guy at the store said that it would be going on next Tuesday as well.

I am debating to either get the Environizer or Ionic Breeze, can anyone give me any suggestions or feedback from theirs.

Thanks

Mine seems to be doing OK.

Hey, how do y'all clean yours? mine seems to have a stuck on gunk that doesn't just wipe off. Should I scrub at it? Use a plastic scrubbie?

Hmm, consumer reports checked out that sharper image unit, which works on the same principle, and said it was virtually worthless.

On the Ozone situation, it wont hurt a healthy person, but if you are at all respiratory compromised (allergic, asthmatic, etc), it may in fact give you some problems. In essence this process attaches negatively charged particles to dust and other airborn crud, making it heavier and larger, and more easily filtered (or in the case of these devices, to stick to the metal plates). However, common sense will tell you that if you happen to breathe in the particle before the filter gets it to stick to a plate, then its something bigger thats going to end up in your lungs. As an example, my girlfriend, who is asthmatic, bought a hepa filter with an ionizer built in. Made her wheeze like hell. Once I disabled the ionizer it was far better. So be careful.

Just pick it up and use it for 2 days and it works great. I feel the difference with and without. Will try for another week, if its works out, I will keep it, otherwise, it go back to RS.

Thanks for everyone's help and comments.

I wanted an ionic air purifier but i didn't realize that the way it worked was by creating tons of free radicals. What the chemist says about a free radical binding with your DNA is no joke, that's how one gets cancer. I'm not saying these directly cause cancer of course but it definitely seems risky. free radicals also cause aging, etc. why do people take vitamin C and other anti-oxidants? to neutralize free radicals. i would definitely listen to the chemists in this thread and go for true HEPA, even if it isn't as sexy.
