The mantra conservatives will tell anyone and themselves: they believe they are surrounded by un-entitled folks "who want free stuff".
They are threatened by what they think is an "entitlement generation" because the idea that free stuff or other benefits are given to folks "who don't deserve it" obviously means that money is taken from them.
Problem: There is no such thing as an "entitlement generation".
It's a Conservative myth created right at the same time when the horrible, socialist Muslim birth-certificate faking president Obama was elected.
When someone points out that there are still waiters making a $1.50/hr base wage...and that someone points out this is not ok, or folks want minimal wage increased, or health insurance..it's is pointing out THE OBVIOUS, not demanding "free stuff".
When I say I think it's outrageous that a full-time job pays $7.50/hr while rent, doctor's costs etc. HAVE GONE UP...do I belong to the "entitlement generation"?
When I point out it's absurd that people need to pay good money to get an education and then finish school IN DEBT - am I an entitled brat?
* Decent wages have nothing to do with "entitlement"
* Affordable health care has nothing to do with entitlement
* Unemployment insurance/welfare (if not abused) has nothing to do with entitlement
Realize the mind-set of (many) Conservatives whose lives are often about "feeling threatened" that someone would take something from them (money, guns, liberties etc.). Then you will understand where this myth of the "entitlement generation" comes from and who spreads it and why.
THE IRONY: When a politician promises "lower taxes" no-one has a problem with it. This is funny because "lower taxes" are just another form of "free stuff".
But of course, if there are "lower taxes", there is nobody to blame or to be jealous of. With "free stuff" you can always blame hippies, the unemployed, "minorities", Jose or whoever and it resonates with miserable people like Conservatives who are often miserable because "someone is taking or might be taking" their money.
