If i buy one online, do i immediately get access to the online codes/coupons?

I heard someone mention that all you had to do was register your book online to get access right away, but how do i know the book id? Do i get an email with it when i order?
 
There are online codes? I guess I never really looked that hard at them. I used one for a Enterprise rental but they require showing the coupon upon arrival.
