Such a waste. They should have been laying groundwork for the romulan war in the first season.

No way. Both TOS and TNG had better characters.

TOS's Spock (60's version or 80's version) alone is better than anyone on Enterprise. I would also put 80's Kirk and Scotty before anyone on Enterprise as well.

Compared to TNG, jeez. Picard is simply the best Trek character ever, but Riker and Data as still better than anyone on Enterprise.

Enterprise is better than a lot of people say, I will admit that. I maybe would accept it going before red button Janeway's Tale or DS9 (especially pre-Dominion plot), but never TOS and TNG.

Archer is better than Sisko though. Geez Sisko sucks.

It had good characters, the problem was they were relegated to "reoccurring" characters. Characters like Shran and that Vulcan ambassador naysayer were great.

Didn't help that trip sounded like Bush though. Couldn't stop picturing Bush running a warp core. D:

First time I saw E, the intro song was a telltale sign they deviated from the formula too much. Gene Roddenberry's touch was clearly absent more than in other spin offs, they messed up too much trying to capture viewers. It had great moments but it was disappointing to watch that "shower" scene with Trip and T'Pol. Trekkies weren't responding to the sex infusion into their favorite franchise.

A lot of folks look at TNG with rose coloured glasses. Don't get me wrong, it was one of my favourite shows growing up. However, it was just as cheesy as Enterprise and TOS at times. Probably more often than not. As for characters, two words, Wesley Crusher. Or pretty much any child actor on the series. They didn't know how to write parts for kids.

TOS is what it is. It was a campy little sci-fi show that got cancelled after two seasons, then revived for a third only after fans bitched. Nobody watches it for insightful drama. They just want to see Kirk beat up men in rubber lizard suits.

I enjoyed both Enterprise and Voyager. Both are underrated IMO. Didn't care for DS9. Tried to take Trek in too gritty a direction.

TOS sucks every sort of dick in every way possible. It's awful.

TNG was really good. Enterprise was really good. I don't think I can or would compare the two or say that one was better than the other.

ESPECIALLY the early seasons where they kept calling him "The Boy". That was painful to watch even then.

Been watching TNG season 1 and it was absolutely terrible while GR still had so much control.

I can't wait to get to the awesome episodes in later seasons.

I haven't seen any of Enterprise but from what little I know of it I'd be really shocked if I liked it less than TOS or more than TNG..

TNG is the best because there's an episode where a ghost seduces Beverly Crusher and you get to watch her reaction...

Isn't it though? With the talking jewelry boxes and crap? >.> TNG was Gene's "revenge" for people making the ToS into half way decent movies and (GASP) depicting Starfleet as a military (which it is). He figured he was going to turn back the clock and make TNG what HIS trek used to be out. Well, he succeeded. TNG Season 1 sucked as bad as ToS.

I'm glad this is a spaceman thread, at first I thought the OP might actually think this.

The first 3 seasons were good. The last season sucked.

Still not better than TOS or TNG though.

Season 1 TNG is pretty bad, and there are a few dud episodes overall (like any series), but as a whole TNG was seriously ****ing awesome. I was pretty young (middle school) then too, so that added to my awe of it. Now.. I certainly notice the bad acting and writing more but the stories are still great.

I'll admit that by the 3rd season the scripts for TOS had gone way downhill, "Spock's brain" ect. but there were a lot of great episodes in the first 2, "The Corbomite maneuver", "Balance of terror", "The doomsday machine" just to name a few. Sure, the special effects were campy but it was 1966 and Paramount was bitchin about how it cost $225K to film an average episode LOL. It's pointless to compare the two IMHO since they were made 20yrs apart, had different charterers, different writers. Most of TNG was pretty good I thought although I didn't care for episodes that took place mainly in the "holodeck".

I couldn't stand to watch it when it first came out because the theme song made me want to puke, so never gave the show a chance. But once I started watching it on Netflix (and could skip the godawful song), I decided it was OK. Too bad it didn't make it as many seasons as the other franchises.

Pretty much all the Wesley episodes were rough. The space Native Americans one was the icing on the cake, and that was from one of the later seasons.

Wil Wheaton has redeemed himself as a nerd elder statesman / beer aficionado. I imagine he had a rough couple of years though.

I personally find Voyager to be very bad. The writing is just awful. I disagree with the premise on a fundamental level as well. Fans tend to claim that Voyager was closer to GR's roots than other trek shows. But wasn't StarTrek always about leaving our Earthly cradle and expanding our horizons? Voyager is the opposite. It wants to get "away" from all that "scary stuff" of the unknown and get back to where it's comfy cozy. The only episode I liked was Year of Hell. THAT should have been the whole series.

In Season 1 Voyager looks brand new, fine. But by season 7, a ship without the luxury of starbase repairs or supplies or friendly Federation races to assist should have been beaten to all hell, like it did near the tail end of Year of Hell. A ship beaten, broken and falling apart at the seams held together with noting but glue, popsicle sticks and one Captain's unwavoring determination to get her crew home no matter what. How epic would that have been?

I actually never watched Enterprise (after that abortion that was voyager, I was pretty much done with ST for a while). Maybe I should give it a look ...
