Looks like Nolan Bushnell wasn't a crackpot after all (when he declared the PS3 a flop before it launched).

Meanwhile, Nintendo is printing money on their own presses with the Wii & DS Lite.

I love how people are declaring PS3 a flop. If you compare first three months of Xbox 360 and PS3 launch, PS3 has sold more even though the launch games are worse.

Nintendo is doing very well indeed, wish I had bought their stock a few months back when it was sub $20 per share.

XBOX 360 has a year lead in regards to sales; getting your product out to market on time has to count for something.

During the holiday season, you can wrap a turd in shiny black plastic and people will pay $600 for it. Heck, look at the first week of PS3 sales; people were paying $2000 for it.

The holiday season is over. PS3 sales are steadily dropping, and management is getting desperate to stop that downward spiral (which is why you hear rumours of price drops so early in the life cycle).

Huge flop.

Not to mention Sony had probably more than 4x the market than MS did last go around. MS is doing very well this time around, and a lot of nay-sayers of Xbox Live, or people who were unaware of how awesome it is, are now seeing just how great it is.

I also don't expect to see anything good out of the online component of the Wii at all, in it's entire life time. I mean the DS online playing is pretty poor as far as it's whole integration and what not. Sure it works, but it is not that great at all IMO.

This online talk also reminds me of another area ... I love how everyone is also comparing the free online play of PS3 to the pay service of Xbox Live. You can still use PC software and System Link mode to play games online for free on Xbox360, so technically you have free online play on Xbox360 as well.

However, having played the DS online, PS2 online, Xbox/Xbox360 on Kai (free system link software), and Xbox/Xbox360 on Live ... I would gladly pay $50/yr for a service such as live than have a free service offered by Nintendo, Sony, or these PC applications that allow you to play system link online for free.

Hmm.... in december there were 20gb PS3s with some regularity but no 60gbs. Nwo there are 60gbs with regularity. Has the popularity of 20gbs somehow increased?

Yes, the 20GBs are less popular with Sony. They actually lose more money on the 20GBs per console than the 60GBs. Part of the reason why they aren't even bothering to sell them for the European and Australian launch.

I know they are less popular with Sony. But I don't understand why there would be a shortage of them now but not before. Is the idea that sony is producing less of them now that there is no shortage of 60gbs? Because if they are shipping the same ratio as before, it seems counterintuitive to me that there would be only 60gbs left, since those were the ones selling like hot cakes earlier. If anything I would expect even more 20gbs in stock.

Well for starters, most of the people who bought it at launch were buying to resell. They didn't buy what they wanted, they bought what they thought other people would want. And who's going to want to spend $2000 on the lesser PS3?

Same thing I heard about the 360... a year ago.

In fact, I only had 2 games for it for the first 5 months I owned it.

I dont really play my PS3 right now because there arent any games. I dont play my Wii because I cant play online. I still play my xbox 360 because it has had a year to get games and a good online system going.

When games come out for the pS3 Ill play that.

To be honest, my Wii can sit there and rot, since they put a console out that has the massive graphics abilities of my Blackberry. It's for party games and its kinda fun when we have people over. Playing alone is boooooring on that thing.

Sony could hump sheep and eat babies for all I care, if they put out a product I like, Ill buy it.

But you guys should really stop projecting your hopes of stopping innovation as fact when it hasnt even had time to develop.
