I'll edit the title if Ohio St.'s opposition is different than what is posted :p

And if you used the same numbers that were used in the BCS to determine schedule strength until 2003, Michigan would have the edge.

The OP knew exactly what it would start and that is the main reason he/she posted it. It's got nothing to do with who will be playing and everything to do with a BCS bitchfest. I hope Michigan gets in so I can laugh at the self-pwnage.

By the way, anyone who is saying

"BUT MICHIGAN ONLY LOST TO THE BEST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY BY 3POINTS!!!" Needs to realize that the Buckeyes played conservatively in the 2nd half AND Michigan won the turnover margin 3-0. The Buckeyes consistently OUTPLAYED Michigan that entire game and that last TD and 2-point conversion was run-the-clock-down prevent defense. Don't let the final score fool you. OSU took the lead early in the 2nd quarter and never lost it the rest of the game.

I could have posted "BCS National Championship - Ohio St. -vs- Michigan"...

Would that have changed your opinion? Or I'm sure you'd agree with that, right?
Or are you just another bitter Michigan fan?

OK, then explain Florida's games against Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida State. All of which happened in the last month.

If we are going to analyze not only the final result but also how it was obtained then lets do that.

Easy to have a better offense and defense (statistically) than Florida when you play in the Big-10. The Big-10 is usually a much better conference. Michigan had 2 good wins again Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Probelm is that Notre Dame is just a "good" team (not a great team, and very over rated) and that Wisconsin didn't beat 1 single team in the top-25. So you can say that Michigan had 2 "meh, somewhat convincing" wins. Florida has 3 that are "Wow you played a pretty damn good team" wins.

Michigan defense = 14.3 Pts per game.

Florida defense = 12.7 Pts per game against tougher opponents.

We have a winner!

The BCS will officially be fvcked up if Michigan is given the #2 spot in the championship game.
Not that it was flaw free anyway :p

South Carolina and Florida State aren't pushovers, but my point is that the final score of games aren't that big of deal. It's who beat who and how tough was the opponent...not by how much you beat them.

These are the only stats that matter right now. UM is certainly deserving of a #2 ranking, but they already freaking played OSU two weeks ago! Florida may have struggled down the stretch, but they had a strong win over Arkansas tonight and they should get the nod for the title game seeing as we already know that OSU is better than Michigan.

Exactly! We already know Michigan cannot beat OSU EVEN WITH A +3 TURNOVER MARGIN.

I'm done discussing this. I'm done splitting hairs. I'm done arguing about strength of schedules, who's loss or win is better, or trying to gauge which team that a team beat was worthy of their ranking. Wisconsin is #7 and Notre Dame #10 in the BCS. Whether you think it's justified or not doesn't matter. Those are the numbers. The computers and the human polls aggregate. Not just an opinion.

Both teams are VERY deserving. Both teams deserve to play in the championship game. One of them will not get in.

I'm a Razorback fan, so I'm neutral. :p

The point is, Florida should be given the #2 spot against Ohio St.

Michigan getting a rematch is very wrong for college football.

best point in the thread!

It's irrelevant when you are talking about the BCS. Michigan is capable of losing to the #1 team in the country and still be the #2 team in the country. That is what matters to the BCS poll.

Michigan wasn't even the best team in their own conference. Conference winners should be rewarded, no punished (like they were in 2001 and 2003).

Michigan had their shot, they couldn't do it, so sucks for them. Besides, if there's a rematch, and UM wins, how are they all of the sudden the national champs? They lost to the team they just beat. It makes no sense, and it takes all of the impact out of the first meeting. But who am I kidding, it's the BC$.

When has anything that the BCS produced been GOOD for college football?

That's a pretty good point. I think the only year there wasn't any controversy and it worked out well was when OSU played Miami for the title (one of the best games I've ever seen).

How does this sound to everyone?

Ohio State v. USC - Rose Bowl
Florida v. Michigan - Sugar Bowl

Winners play each other on January 8th.

What was the purpose of the BCS anyways? What was it before? Why didn't they just keep the old system if it worked?
