Enough Power?

Do you think a 300w Power Supply is able to power up an AMD XP 1800, 1 CDRW, 1 DVD, 2 Hard disk, 1 Floppy and 5 Casing Fan? Is no, what rating Power Supply to get?

Welcome! Sheesh...must you have that many fans? 😛 What else are you using (more specs please). My 300W blew out running a Thunderbird 900, DVD, CDRW, 1HD, 1 Floppy, 2 Case Fans, 1 Slot fan, video card, NIC, sound card, and modem. You would definitely be better off going with a 350W or a 400W. I'm using a 400W right now. Hope this helps.

Ohh no.. I purchase the casing and I choose it with the Power supply which is a 300w. Forgot to add... I got a ATI All In Wonder Radeon 32MB, NIC, Creative Audigy also in that system.

Any other comments? Anybody who got a 300w Power supply and still running well on a system similar to mine?

quality powersupply as another one said. i myself feel a 350 watter would better suit your needs .

even a good 300w might have problems... you need a good 350 to cover it.... even the Enlight 340 watt would work

Personally I would ditch a couple of the fans since they draw a good amount or juice. I have athlon 1.4, 2 hd, 1 dvd, 1 cdrw, GF 2 (mx), phone nic, modem, couple of usb devices. I use a 300W ps. No problems so far.

Good Luck

I have a setup like yours minus the hard drive. I also had a 300w ps and it blew up. Just couldn't handle it. So now I have a 500w just so I know I have enough power. At least I know I can use the ps for a .while

Everyone all of a sudden thinks you need massive power supplies which is not necessarily true. I'm running a dual XP 1600 with an Antec 300w power supply w/o one single problem. If you already have a 300 try it and see if it works. If it doesn't then upgrade.

If the power supply is a high quality component, I think it will work. Although a 350W would be much better suited for that system.

not having enough power will not kill your system. it'll just not boot or give you stability issues. so if you experience those problems with your 300w psu, do an upgrade. but if not, then save your money for something else.

That should be enough, I have a 1600XP, 4 fans, 2HDs, dvd cdrw, radeon 8500, santa cruz, nic, etc. Just one less fan than you, and a slightly lower cpu. I highly doubt that you need more than 300W, as I never have, and I don't buy expensive psu's. I've never had a system that didn't work with generic psu's, when I run it off my house power, I get reboots constantly, but as soon as its on a ups, its fine.

Foooof! Five case fans? What is this your strategy for trying to keep the household heating bills down?

Anyway a good 300 watter is plenty o watts...

I have a 300 watt antec power supply

Athlon 1.4 ghz @ 1.466
4 case fans
2 Hard drives
1 cd-r
1 cdrom
1 DVD room
scsi card
2 nics
1 Turtle beach santa cruz
1 geforce GTS-V

Runs nice and stable

Athlon XP use less power then the 1.4 athlo, so you should be fine.

I intend to install a fan bus. During the heatwave, I'll on more fan. During the cold days, I on maybe 1 or 2 fans. As for reasons, well, its the cool factor.
