I am running a 900Mhz T-bird, a GeForce2 GTS 32MB video card, 1 CD-ROM, 1 CD-R and 2 20 gig IBM HDs(one 5400RPM, one 7200RPM). I just got the setup going today and it has been acting funny. I currently have a 300W power supply, is this a large enough power supply for that Im doing?
thanks,
-doug

I thought it would be plenty. But it seems to reboot whenever Im doing disk intensive activities(namely transfering my 4gigs of MP3s from one folder to another). It is a brand new Antec power supply that I had used in my box before(all I did was take out my old mobo and cpu and put in my new one). The power supply has always been fine, never had any trouble and it is only 2 months old. I unplugged my CD-R to see if that will help, but I dont think it will. Im running an Asus A7V motherboard now, if that changes my situation at all. I only have 3 cards in the computer plus the on-board ATA/100 controller. Funny thing is, I could see with 2 HDs, but my second HD(the 7200RPM) isnt even in yet. I could always go up to a 350W power supply - I have no trouble with doing that if need be, I just want to be sure that it is the power supply and not something else. I guess I should maybe just leave the computer on for a new hours, but doing nothing, and see what happens. Any thoughts?
thanks,

JUST NOTICED: I was looking through my power management and it had my PC set to go to standby after 20 minutes. Perhaps it was shutting down, but should it do that when Im transfering files? I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

And yes it should be large enough, but besides the power supply being bad, if you're sure everything is working properly it could be the power in the building that you're in.

Give it some time and see what makes it turn off and when. Athlons do consume quite a bit of power but the Antec is a good supply and should be able to handle your rig.
