Got a call from the recruiter, who told me that I got accepted as a 3C0 at Travis. There weren't any openings for an officer. I still need to pick a date to ship out to Texas...any suggestions? July or September?

First, I found out that Travis didn't have a need for 3C0, but he talked to the chief over there, who was willing to "interview" me. I went over there and talked to him about what the unit did (often goes overseas to secure a location and set up computer equipment). He liked me well enough to recommend me, even though the job is sought after and I have no prior service. After that was over, the recuiter told me that I had to be approved for "split training", which is when tech school isn't currently available and will be scheduled later after basic training. That means I get to go home after 6weeks of basic!

Update1:
wow! recruiter just called again and found dates for tech school, so I'll be going to basic, then tech school right afterwards. I wonder if I can attend basic during the early winter, then go home for Christmas, then go to tech school.

Update2:
Went to the recruiter's office this morning and took the oath with him and a major (who incidentally works in the same dept that I do). Shipping out on July 27 to basic and coming back on Dec 20 from Tech School. Yay!

Definitely September. That is towards the end of the summer.

Yes, but this is the Air Force we are talking about. Marines or Army, no way in hell I would be in TExas in July.

Went through OCS during July in San Antonio.

We tested the theory about being hot enoughto fry an egg.

Theory was valid even on on concrete:beer:

You will have to try and work backward from openings for tech school.

Find out what school you would be going to and when they would have you slated for a slot.
Enlisted basic may be 6 weeks. Start date for that is flexible. Probably every 2-3 weeks.

Where is your tech school going to be at?

Biloxi Mississippi (Keesler AFB). Basic (I believe) is at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. In addition to tech school, I'll have to attend a 6week class on adv. weapons training.
