From looking at IMDB.com it seems that the original is named Alien and the sequel is named Aliens (plural). But when I search for Alien, predator also comes up in the search results. Are the movies related? Also, there are Aliens 3 and 4...are those worth watching?

They made a movie called Alien VS Predator, it is a cross-over between the two. Frankly, I like the Alien sequels.

Only worth watching are 1 and 2. They are semi-directly related since Ridley is in 1, 2, and sort of in 3. Alien 4 sux0rs. And the reason "predator" shows up because "Alien Vs. Predator" was made in 2004, which sucks.

Then Aliens Vs. Predator, which is actually a prequel to all the Aliens films, but occurs after Predators 1 and 2.

Predator and Aliens are only related in the AvP movies. Aliens 3 is ok but not as good as the first two, however Alien Ressurection absoultely sucks.

They're all good, 3 was a little slow and 4 was so over the top to be ridiculous. Doesn't fit with the series, but I like it because it's Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children). He's a weird dude.

Ridley isn't in any of them. Ripley, however, is in all of them.

The whole premise for AvP started when viewers caught a glimpse of an alien skull inside the Predator ship or trophy room in Predator 2 with Danny Glover. That is how they are connected.

the common thread is "money" :p

and AvP II is a great video game if only a fair action movie (AvP) . . . . the video games "linked" them (in an effort to milk money from fans). ;)

Plus writing by Joss Wheedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly), and entertaining scenery-chewing by Sigourney Weaver, Ron Perlman and the other mercs.

AvP was a comic book before the video games and movie.

But I bet that Harry Potter could kick
the Alien's a$$ in a battle.

Or even in a game of quidditch....

Maybe he could use a light sabre too.
But the Alien blood will burn a hole in his robe.
No wait. The light sabre will cauterize the wound.

Nevermind.

The first three were written by Alan Dean Foster who has written some of the most popular science fiction movies of all time, including, STAR WARS. The first two were great. AvP was entertaining, but the premise was dumb IMO.

Further reseach has that Alan Dean Foster wrote the novelization of Star Wars: A New Hope as George Lucas. Apparently the story was Lucas's idea.

Actually Dark Horse Comics came up with the idea a few years before Predator 2 came out. Their comic series spawned the video games, novelizations, etc, as well as the movie.
