I currently use Sony's MDR-G45, but was wondering if I'm missing out on better audio quality vs. something of higher quality. Am I going to see a noticeable difference in a $40 set over a $15 one? I saw NewEgg has these on sale, but I'm clueless as to whether they will benefit me at all. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money as I'm not an audiophile.

Also, how much does my onboard audio chip affect sound quality? It's a Realtek ALC892.

sennheiser hd 201's are only $15 and very good quality as well. head over to head-fi.org to get true audiophile reviews.

Depends. There are decent $15 ones and shitty $40 ones. But the good $40 one is going to be much better than a good $15 one.

Your best bet for around $40 is probably a used set of Sony MDR-V6. These have amazing detail and are generally regarded a phenomenal deal for how much they cost.

But if you go to head-fi.org, they'll have some great guides that does massive headphone comparisons and you'll find one custom tailored just for you at your price point.
