Need a case for a newly acquired old k6-2 400 that will run 24/7 as file server.
I know Antec are the shiznit but they cost a fortune here (more than the components inside would be worth). The store sells Enlight w/ 300 watt PSU for about 1/5th the price of the Antec w/ 430 watt. They also have a complete no namer even cheaper but I'm hesitant on that (dont want to sink THAT low). I've heard the name "Enlight" a few times but cannot associate good nor bad with it. Can you guys give me feedback?

It will contain:
motherboard + k6-2 400 and heatsink+fan
128MB SDRAM
80GB Western Digital 8meg cache
4meg ATI PCI vid card
2x PCI dlink card
POSSIBLY a PCI sound card (and be a jukebox too? not sure)
POSSIBLY a CDROM (not sure)

Should this PSU, even though not as widely known, be decent? any feedback with people with experience would be amazing I really appreciate it thanks.

I have used a couple Enlight cases with my K6-2 350mhz and K6-450mhz systems, and one of the cases is still being used today. I'd say you'd be fine with a generic PSU considering the components you plan on using.

If it makes you feel any better, i have a 2MB ISA video card in my server (along with a P-166 and 32MB EDO ram)!

Enlight makes solid cases. I bought one of their cases a while back and replaed the power supply with an antec. It saved me a bundle.

I've had 4 Enlight cases and PSUs. All are still working to this day, except for one. The oldest one was like 5 years old when the PSU just gave up one morning. Of course it was on almost 24/7 for those 5 years. The cases are solid and very well constructed. You know what model you were looking at?

Thumbs up on Enlight. I have three enlight cases in my house and I have never had issues with their power supplies either.

Very fine cases. The power supplies are good. You can also buy a case without a power supply and install your own.

The Enlight cases are very nice IMO. The PSU's leave a little to be desired. They're OK, they'll work fine for your everyday type computer, but if you plan on overclocking or running lots of cdrom/dvd/hard drives you're better off replacing it with something of a bit more quality. My +3.3V and +12V lines are kind of skewed, but still within spec in the my Enlight case with its original PSU.

I'll echo techfuzz's comments. The Enlight midtower cases are good cases for the $$. I'm current using a 7237 (now sold as the 7250). OTOH the power supplies are adequate at best. FWIW I modified my case by cutting out both the front and rear fan grills. I added a wire grill to the rear fan, and simply left the front fan uncovered. I then drilled out the holes in the front case cover, making them twice the diameter and doubling the number of holes. I mounted a YSTech 80mm variable speed fan in the front and a Panaflo 92mm fan out the back, volted down to 7v.

I like the case enough that two recent systems I built for family utilize the 7237/7250.

I had a 7237. I liked it. It was pretty easy to work with.
But the 300W Enlight PSU that came with it died about a year and a week after I bought it. Of course it had a 1 year warranty so I was screwed. But most people have had pretty good luck with them.

I have to disagree about the Enlight power supplies being poor. I have a 7237 with the 300W supply and it has run my K7s5a with Athlon T-Bird 1.4 watt sucker, 80gb WD, 60 GB maxtor, 2x256 memory sticks and 2 optical drives (DVD and CD/RW) flawlessly. Ever some mild o/cing was tolerated. Not one problem or BSOD ever, even using the k7s5a board which is known to be sensitive to power fluctuations. I couldn't be more happy w/ this supply.

EDIT: sorry, forgot the Radeon 7500, M-Audio Revolution, and Happague Capture Card. Also I looked closely at your component list. You would have ZERO problems with that setup. Mine is probably consuming triple the power without problems.

I would rank Enlight in the middle of the road. They are definately better some of those cheap Foxcon cases, but aren't nearly as nice as a Cooler Master. When I am looking for a "solid" case for a system and I want to save a little $, then I would go with a Enlight.

And I'll echo Jeff H's additional comments about the cases. I also drilled out the holes in the front to increase the diameter and added some decent 80mm fans to the front and rear. I left the fan grills intact, but I did mod the side panel to add a window. Did this all about 3 years ago back when case modding with your bare hands was the ONLY way to do it. The 7237 cases were very popular for modding back in the day. hehehe "back in the day"
