Enhancing the way desktop icons work in xfce?

Red Squirrel

I noticed that now that I made my primary monitor the 2nd monitor (3 monitors total, so another on each side) that whenever I download something, or save something to the desktop, it ends up on the first monitor. Is there a way to make it go to the main one?

Also say I right click somewhere on the desktop, or drag something to it, is there a way to make the icon appear at that actual location? Again, very enoying to have to go hunt for it when I wanted it at THAT spot, not some other random spot. Do other desktop environments handle this better?

My Distro is Xubuntu (can't recall the version and can't seem to find the place to verify it, but think it's 11.10 IIRC)

I don't use multiple monitors or desktop icons. You might want to consider a change in habit. Using a panel plugin you can have instant access to various directories and files. My two primary directories for temporary things are Downloads and Temp. The names should be self explanatory, and by not using desktop icons, I don't have something hidden behind a window when I need it. Something to consider...
