I just came home from college for the weekend and right after dinner, I started taking my computer apart (I ripped the Antec out and told it to die in a fire). After cleaning out some heatsinks, moving some fans around, I started planning out how I would arrange the cables in my computer.
And here began the installation of a new Corsair CMPSU-520HX...
I opened up the package and found the manual (which I disregarded). I removed the top of the foam padding to reveal a black, but not mirror coated power supply in a plastic bag for further paint protection with a huge 120mm fan. Of course, the norm for most power supplies is 120mm and now even 140mm. Having used two power supplies equipped with 120mm, this was no surprise to me. I started opening up the modular cable bag and ripped out a variety of cords. Of course, I had no use for the second PCI-e cable (no SLi here) and numerous other cables (I'm using 4 of 5 modular ports and one of the PCI-e ports) that had absolutely no use. The package included around 10 zip ties, a cool "Powered by Corsair" sticker, a packet of four power supply screws painted black (nice touch) and of course, the power cable.
I started plugging in the cables into the power supply and realized that these things are just like the ones in the X-Connect power supplies made by Ultra (black and not silver). They are difficult to bend but definitely add a sleek look to the insides of your case. Overall, a good wiring job took me around two hours to get right because of the nearly unbendable main +12V cable leading to the motherboard and the ribbon style cables that don't seem to cooperate. I tied a lot of the cables to my case with the provided zip ties (Corsair, you're spoiling me) and it looks stunning. Pics will come soon (and having just installed this power supply and with no real testing devices, I'm just going to say that this PSU is quiet and very much worth the 90 USD that I spent on it).
