English learning software

I have a friend who is from Hong Kong. She came to the US not too long ago and she asked me if I know of any software out there that she can use on her computer that can teach English to Chinese people. The ones I found are mainly dictionary type software that doesn't really help much. I found one that was pretty cool, talkmanpsp for the psp, but she doesn't have a psp.

Anyone know of a good solid English learning software specifically designed for Asians? She doesn't have a lot of money to spend so maybe one that is inexpensive or preferably free. It doesn't even have to be a software, it could be a website. (Not sites like Babelfish or Google China or Yahoo China)

Thanks
Shaun

I have to ask - what's the point of using a software since she's already in the US? I would understand if she's still in Hong Kong with not many native English speakers to practice with. Nothing beats learning a language by using in real life IMO..

The "Instant Immersion" series are quite good IMO, though I've only tried the Chinese version. They're cheap too, at best buy you can get 2-cd sets for $5. I only tried CD 1 of 2 so far, it is mostly a vocab builder (I think CD 2 is more conversational), but EVERYTHING is spoken audio which is a big, big plus.

We do help her with speaking and learning English on a daily basis. She does try to speak English whenever she can but she still needs more assistance. I will try the Instant Immersion that you mentioned Evander. Thanks

Also check if your library has the "Pimsleur" series of language audio (cd/tape) products. Those are awesome, but really expensive ($150+ for 15 CD set). I hear "Rosetta Stone" CD-ROM series is also great, but again expensive and I doubt they'll have that at the 'brary.

best if she'd just get an English-speaking boyfriend.

best way for a guy to learn another language comes in a short skirt.
