And I am a computer "engineer" myself. I could have done EE pretty easily I expect, but I chose to do Computer Science, and I also didn't focus in college.

I'm a EE. When I did have a job, I loved that feeling when you get the closer to the goal in simulations. It applies to all engineers but that feeling is addictive.

I actually derived the list from the wiki list and what I thought were the major branches--I guess 'computer' lumps the hardware and software design together.

We have a computer engineering program here. The computer engineers are just electrical engineers that have specilaized in computer/hardware/chip programing and operations instead of something more common like power, photonics, communications, or controls.

My friend who got a EE degree in computer engineering also got a physics degree and is designing chips and finding new materials to build them out of.

We take all the same classes but just a few different electives depending on what we want to specialize in.

a lot of schools are offering computer engineering which is basically electrical with less emphesis on power type topics and more on IC's and computer technology. the calsses are "real" and "hard". I agree that IT doesn't count as engineering

Such as Georgia Tech, my alma mater. I could have taken 1 analog class and one power systems class and graduated as a EE. Instead, I took VLSI and Languages & Translation, quite possibly the two most difficult classes I took.

I learned in the job field that people will either see you as a CS or as a EE. I should have been a EE.

I am currently enrolled in 'computer engineering' at UC Irvine (ranked top 10 public schools, so not a shoddy program), I take classes with EE majors, but branch off in certain subjects; instead of learning about materials and chemical bonds used in electronics I took programming and computer architecture classes.

I definatly consider myself a real engineer, I am tired of people not giving credit to computer engineers, most people think its computer science because they arent informed.

I think it's a valid field, more specialized than Elec.

I'm a mechE. I love building stuff and watching it work. I've taken lots of EE and CS stuff, too, my end goal is to go into robotics. I'll need an advanced degree before I do that, and I'm only halfway through undergrad, but I'm getting there.

I'm an aerospace engineer. I love it because of the kinds of things you work on. Call me crazy, but I think designing airplanes and rockets is 100 times cooler than designing a circuit board or something. I also love aerospace engineering because of how extreme some designs have to get. Bridges and similar structures can have factors of safety of up to 20 (hey, just add some more steel and concrete!), whereas as a satellite can have a factor of safety as low as 1.05.
