I'm at a roadblock and I need an idea of how engineering applies in the home. It could be how Gatorade is effective, or how a soccer ball works, or how refrigeration works in your freezer. But they've all been done before.

Do you have a good topic?

vibrational modes of water when you microwave something

the photodetector in your television to watch for remote control input

the phosphors in your crt

the transistors in your computer

the led in your optical mouse

Interesting. but probably not for ECE. Something Chem, civ or Mech would be good though.

Everything is somehow related to chemical engineering. Pick any item in your home... a chemical engineer or someone using ChemE principles had a hand in the design or manufacture of the item. For instance, the saran wrap that you used to wrap your Thanksgiving leftovers in was developed and manufactured by chemical engineers.

An engineer has a hand in just about everything in your home.

We build your cars. We make your computers, we design your homes. Don't fvck with us.

Easy.

An old fashioned clock.

Springs (Spring constants etc)

Pendulums (periods)

Gears (Several things here)

All applied physics put to single purpose. Metallurgy, machining, on and on.
