Engineer says Hi!

I just got back from getting together with Engineer for a few drinks (diet cokes 🙂) and he wanted me to pass on a Hi! from him. 😀

In case you've been wondering where he has been this week, he's been up near Columbus on a project, and has been putting in MAJOR hours there to get it finished. Plus the plant shuts down at 6:00pm, and he has had no time to get to the forums this week. He does plan on popping in tomorrow night when he gets back home, after working on some new adjustments to the warp nacelles. Priorities 😀

We had a good time, talking about TA, DC projects, PCs, etc. You know, the usual things that make up good conversation. 😉😉

😀

Gee - must have been kinda like watching "Grumpier Old Men" eh... ? :Q :Q :Q

Couple old farts, sitting around leaning on their canes. BWAAAAAH~! 😉

Hahah. I loved that film 😉

Now wait a minute, I'm the same age as Engineer so I don't want to hear anything about "old" or "canes!" :Q

RaySun2Be, thanks for passing on the word... hope he makes it through the project with his sanity intact! 🙂 Hang in there Engineer!

Well,

I'm back...but with sad and bad news....

I woke up this morning to find that my van had been broken into at the Ramada parking lot...they punched the passenger side door lock out and opened the van up. Because I was to come home today and was so tired last night, I had left my laptop locked up in the back...well, needless to say, it's no more! :| They ripped my door up pretty bad....stole my laptop, my tools and my industrial cables (not sure what the hell for on the cables)...strangely enough, they left the 9 inch TV/VCR alone. I've got the door working again, but will probably have to have a new skin put on is tore up and wouldn't take much to get in now (unless I have it welded up or something.

Sigh....police suggested to check the dumpsters...no luck. I did back the laptop up right before I left, so I have a copy of 99.9% of the important stuff at the office....(smile..sorta)....

I have no heart right now....the parking lot of the Ramada was being coated yesterday and we had to park in the back....my wife said that we should really try to move it later because it would be broken into....little did I know...🙁

I'll be around later.....

Damn, that sucks. :|

Looking for the silver lining ... maybe your company or insurance can hopefully get you a new faster model. 😉

Dasm, that REALLY sucks! :|

Good that you have a backup of the important stuff. Since you were travelling for the company, will their insurance pick up the tab on fixing your van, laptop and replacing the tools?

Man that just bites. :|

:Q :Q :Q

Dasm is not a strong enough word! :|

I hope things turn out okay. Believe you me, something like that would make ME a grumpy old lady for sure...

That is beyond words. I hope you are able to shrug it off and all expenses paid as everyone has been saying. Maybe the Hotel had a 24 hr security tape recorder rolling? Did the police dust your Van for prints? With all that destruction of your Van, surely they weren't using gloves. I bet the police have no interest in capturing these real criminals, disgust.

Not sure yet who is paying for what...I have a $500 deductible on my auto insurance....but still, with the laptop, Fluke meter, tools and door damage....we're looking at about $2000 total :Q

Papers lost that were in the case...priceless as they represented about 80 hours hard work...and were handwritten....no photocopies yet as I didn't need to.....I think that says enough on that.

The hotel didn't have any sort of security....and on top of that, backs up to a public housing project....all equals NOT staying there (or maybe any Ramada in principle) again!

The police didn't seem too interested....just scribbled a few things down and asked me if I needed a police report...I told them they could write one up and I would call the department for it next week.....

I've repaired the door and have bought a few new tools to work on it some more....I will take it to work, have the guys spot weld the tears in the metal (under the trim so it won't show)....dress it up with a pencil grinder....put a coat or two of primer on it...and cover it all back up with trim....I guarantee that if someone tries to rip that same door open again, it will be 10 times as hard after the weld I will have added (advantages to working in a tool/die/machine shop with every welder that you can think of)....

Even as a victim, I almost feel like I did something wrong......I guess it's just a mixed bag of emotions right now......My boss is really (REALLY) a cool and understanding guy so I don't think it will even be an issue.....he'll just buy me a new laptop and go on. Just a side note, the laptop should have been dead already anyway...it was knocked off a cart about 6 months ago...hit the concrete floor from 4 feet...cracked the case, broke the battery holder and killed the drive bays....I hope it catches on fire and burns the mothers that have it! :Q:|

After watching the news...it could be really worse...my kids and my wife are safe....I have plenty to eat...the van is repairable...the laptop and tools are replacable.....the work is even replacable.......but it still hurts.

Thanks to you all....it will take a few days to settle down.....on top of that, my daughters bicycle was stolen in broad daylight last week...right in front of my house.....makes me wonder what the world is coming to.

To end...one good note....I have two brand new XP1600+ systems with 128M PC2100 DDR sitting here waiting to be put together....anyone want to bring some TOOLS over and start for me? 😛

Goodnight all.....

Amen

I think we all know the answer to that unfortunately but we leave that to the powers that be as well.

Enjoy putting the systems together 🙂 and putting your mind onto a better subject.

Goodnight sir and everyone.

Hi Engineer

Thats really bad news 🙁 I'm sorry, I know how you feel.

Bearing in mind that I have been a salary man for about 1 year now (my car is the biggest purchase I have ever made) : Last week my car was broken into. They tried to crowbar the door open, which failed so they smashed the window. They stole my CD player, amplifier and speaker set! I had worked really hard to buy each of those - it was convenient as I could add one at a time. Anyway the whole lot was taken in an instant.

The killer is that this happened on my drive, outside my bedroom window, at around 4 or 5 am. 🙁

Good luck getting it all sorted. Getting the window replaced in my car was healing and really brought a smile to my face 🙂 It really reminded me how we take windows for granted lol! Anyway I'm rambling - good luck 🙂

Scums.:| When it rains, it pours. I'm glad to hear that you managed to meet up with Ray - and not get whacked - even if your van did. Fight the good fight, and I hope you find the scum that broke into your van. And most of all, enjoy what's left of your trip.🙂

A$$wipes. :|

How about 120 years in prison for the pr*cks?

Sorry guys - that REALLY pisses me off!

Even *IF* they *could* catch them... they'd do nothing. No headlines in it. :|:|:|
Maybe if it were in GA, Thurbie could call out the calvary...

But then again - perhaps there's a troop of girl scouts available. Might be more appropriate.
