Engine swap, now trans not working right sometimes

Ok, this isn't going to be easy to describe because I'm not the one working on the car, my son is and this is what he's telling me.

They pulled the 2.4L out of his '99 Alero and put a 2.4L back in that came from a '01 Grand Am. Now, he says that sometimes the car won't upshift. This happens going from 1st to 2nd and other times from 2nd to 3rd and other times it works just fine. The trans was fine before the swap.

What did he fuck up? Any ideas? I'm getting ready to have him take it to a shop so I can have my pickup truck back :(

Which ECU did they use? If the ECU controls shifting and they used a different one, maybe it could cause weirdness.

<- has no automatic vehicles, is guessing

The only thing swapped was the engine itself so it would be using the same ECU.

Vac line squashed in-between bell housing and block, :confused::confused::confused:
