Engine oil question 2003 Honda civic ex

Ok, I don't know much about cars. I just got my oil changed and out of curiosity I opened the cap where the oil goes and looked inside. You can see inside this area pretty clearly and there is no oil in there. Everything has a thin oil layer on it though. I checked the oil stick and the oil level seems fine. Is this correct that there shouldn't be oil in the area where the oil goes? Does it go deeper in the engine? Thanks.

Yes it does. If you saw oil in there your engine would be totally ...well you just would never see oil in there unless they had poured way way too much oil in your engine, and in that case the thing would buggar itself up quickly and run badly. Go by the dipstick 🙂

The pan the holds the oil is on the underside of the engine. When you add oil, it drains threw the engine to the oil pan.

If the dipstick says you're OK, then you're OK. There's a reason the drain bolt for the oil pan is on the bottom of the car. 😉
