engine mount and steering rack shaking...related?

My mechanic told me the reason I had steering rack shaking was due to bad engine mount. I didn't believe him cause I can't see any relationship between the two. So I let him do the job anyway, and now 95% of steering rack shaking is gone. I am speechless. How did that happen? The reason for the 5% according to him was because he couldn't tie down a couple bolts on the rear mount.

Can someone explain?

The steering rack is connected to the suspension system. When the engine shakes, the suspension components shake. That sends feedback to the wheel.

No, not just the usual steering shake during operation. I can push against the steering wheel and feel a bit of room play even when the car is off. So this led me to believe my steering rack is not tightened up or something. I don't know how it's connected to the suspension system, is there a youtube video or picture to show on a 98 Accord?
