Taking the plunge....

Anyone have any feedback on bluenile.com or recommend other jewelers?

Also anyone know the price ranges of Cariter Solitaire 1895 rings?

thanks!

bluenile has been reccomended by many people, they say that there diamonds are top notch, especially since you get to choose exactly what you want, and if you don't like it when you see it in person, you can return it for its full value or excahge/credit it towards something else.

I would stay away from any of the big diamond retailers. There's just no originality there. Try looking for vintage rings in upscale consignment jewelers. A lot of guys just get caught up in the quality of the diamond when looking for a ring. Try to aviod that and consider the ring as a whole.

Good luck!

Blue Nile is great in both quality and service. I bought my fiances ring from them and it is beautiful! She loves every aspect of her ring especially the clarity of the diamond. (she is very picky when it comes to these things so it's really saying a lot) I would highly recommend them!

DON'T GO TO THE MALL!!!!

That is the best advice you will get. I went to a local jewely store, and about 1 hour later, I had a ring picked out and an emptied checking account.

tell his fiance that

If he was in Europe he wouldn't have to. Leave it to Americans to buy into the hype that the size of a +diamond is somehow related to how much they love you.

at first glance i thought it was enlargement rings and thought wtf... need to clean my glasses again 😛

Try the forums at pricescope.com or diamondtalk.com. Blue Nile is a good retailer, but you can find better stuff and better deals elsewhere.

My FI bought my dia from bluenile.com and its PERFECT!! great customer service and if you dont like it, you can send it back and get another one.
For the price and service, you cannot go wrong!
as a matter of fact, he bought me some pearls from there as well that were nice. i am very satisfied with their quality and service!
just make sure you educate yourself about diamonds before buying and good luck.
Keep in mind that your future fiance will be wearing this peice of jewelry for the rest of her life, so make sure you put your heart into picking out something she will love today and from here on out! classic will never go out of style.

They are even going to be worth less in the near future..

the new diamond age

No, because the gift should be visible on your person at all times. It should be a rolex or whatever the geek equivalent of rolex is. Or a really crazy as heck cell phone that drives you to work and flies to the moon.

After a few months of research, I bought my fiancee's ring at Blue Nile. The price can't be beat, and you choose whatever quality you want (or how much you want to spend).

After shopping for platinum wedding bands at local stores and stuff, and it appears we'll be going back to Blue Nile to get those too.

They sent me a reusable coupon code for 10% off a few days ago. If anyone wants it, PM me. I'm pretty sure you can't get 10% off the rock, but they'll take it off the setting or any other fine jewelry. It expires on September 30, but they send a new one every few weeks.

BTW, my GF is foreign-born and lives in Taiwan. The whole diamond engagement ring idea doesn't really exist over there. Her first comment on the ring I gave her is that it's too big. Her friends and family say the same thing. BUT, she refuses to take it off and her friends are jealous.

Face value counts a lot with the Taiwanese, and the ring has been worth it just for that. 😀 It's certainly not an investment. It's a gift.

I'd recommend BlueNile.com as well. I know what my wife wanted as far as cut and setting so it was very easy to order through them. I even guessed her ring size right! So it was simple for me and she loves the ring.

Luck!

you're both marrying men? :Q
what? where did you deduce that?
He could be asking, "Are you both men who are marrying?" or maybe he's asking, "Are you both marrying other men?"

Which do you think it is?

I just got engaged last May,

when buying an engagment ring, you're buying a diamond first. Then a ring. Don't forget the diamond is usually at least 80% of the cost.

Also, do some research online about diamonds and engagment rings before shopping around. Its always good to have some knowledge on what your buying.

And take you time, if any dealer pressures you to the point your uncomfortable, dont' go back. Remember your the one with the money to spend, dealers should be nice and patient with you.

Good luck!

Ed
