Engagement ring insurance?

I'll be popping the question next month and purchasing the ring just before, while we're on hols. We currently maintain seperate residences, but we'll be getting a shared condo at summer's end. I'm relatively certain my current insurance policy has limited coverage for personal items like jewellery.

I'm going to have a chat with my insurance company tomorrow, but what should I be shopping for with regards to a policy? With whom do you recommend? Thoughts? Advice?

You'll need to find out what the jewelery coverage is on the policy by default. Assuming it isn't enough you'll have to get a rider. I wouldn't expect it to be very expensive.

edit: As everyone has said, when I said policy I meant homeowner's/renter's insurance.

We had to add it as a seperate item. Everything is normally covered under the regular policy except really $$$ items.

Almost all jewelers cover the stone if it falls out.

As for the whole ring missing, you should get a specialized coverage through your homeowner's policy. They usually only cover so much for a certain item. When I got my SLR camera, I called and they said they would only cover $500 worth of "camera equipment". I paid an extra ~$1.00 a month to have up to ~$5,000 for "Camera equipment".

Your best bet is to call your insurance company.

Your fiance needs to call her insurance agent. Once you give her the ring you would no longer have an insurable intrest. You will have and insurable intrest after your married or she dumps you and gives the ring back.
