I remember using 2400 on my commodore 64 and IT WASNT BAD REALLY!! (For the speed it was)

The guy @ the store kept telling me 2400 WOULDNT WORK ON A COMMODORE 64 -- I got one anyway and it worked fine!!!!! (I read 9600 could be used also (NO FILE TRANSFERS @ THAT SPEED THOUGH (Cpu couldnt keep up)))

My favorite:
One day in the future we'll all work at 200MHz tower desktops with 9600 baud modems, but until then we'll just have to keep dreaming. So while we're just making crap up, how's about the Flatpanel Computer mockup, by crackpot "unconventional" designer Jim Leftwich. One little doozy of a pipe dream the computer actually has a flat screen. Whatever, Jim, it'll happen one day, we so believe you.

I started with a 300 baud pulse dial modem (no touch tone dial), later upgraded to a 2400 baud modem for the c64. Even though the c64 was 40 column, there was a terminal program that would display 80 columns for dialing those 'ibm' bbs's 😉

This is a neat look back but it's hard to get over the fact that this is so poorly written (as usual with Engadget).

Holy cow i didn't know engadget ran that far back..

i remember loading our cool 300/1200/2400 baud modems, running our own searchlight and telegard / pcboard bbs l33333t hahahahaha
