Pretty much Apple is saying that certain apps are automatically banned by AT&T even though AT&T may technically not have had any say in whether to ban an app or not. It seems like bandwidth intensive apps or those infringing on voice communication are automatically banned.

AT&T seems to confirm it with what they're saying since they admit to having discussions with Apple about certain apps such as those that might be high bandwidth or VOIP apps.

Seems like what most thought is true. AT&T is restricting bandwidth intensive apps or those that are VOIP based because this poaches on their minutes while data connections are suppose to be unlimited.

So while AT&T may technically not have had any discussions with Apple regarding Google Voice, it's likely that the policies set forth by AT&T made it an automatic rejection for that app by Apple.

This sort of thing is going to heat up more and more in the next 18 months. Some carriers around the world are even unhappy that some platforms have App Stores at all, preferring to control all content delivery to the consumer.

This is why I like T-mobile. They dont gimp their phones. They dont hack the OS's. They dont load down your device with bullshit. And they dont restrict its features. They also were the first to adopt Android and currently have two Android based phones.
And for pure freedom Android is a hundred times better than the iPhone.

Yep, they're pretty straightforward with their phones/plans.

My G1 is a brick with the extended battery, but it's the best web surfing phone I've found.

The 2 Android phones out allow downloading of apps from other than the marketplace too
