Engadget DIY Projector screen project question..

Yeah, yeah, I know this project is pretty dated, around 2006 - but it's still a good alternative for a homemade screen, right?

One thing they were never very clear on - blackout fabric has a "glossy" side, or smooth side.. and it has a textured side, akin to canvas. One would imagine that the glossy/smooth side would be the side you would use for your screen, but in the pictures in the article it appears they used the canvas side? Which would be appropriate?
 
Blackout fabric establishes the border for the screen and as such you want zero reflection from it. If you use the glossy side you'll get reflection (albeit subdued) and as such your border will look like crap. So you'll want to use the texture side to establish the blackout portion of the screen.
