Pretty good article actually.
I thought I would see a big Apple bias.
I think one big factor is the price.
Its $115 with ATT for unlimited but only 2gb data cap.
Its $80 with Sprint(unless you are a few who uses more than 450mins to landline) and no data cap.
But I have to say I would reccommend the iphone 4 to most people out there. The EVO are for the tech geeks in us.

Good article. It's not really a debate, it's more of a side by side comparison. Very fair. If I were shopping, that article would be extremely helpful.

The one thing they left out, though, was the ease of replacing things you don't like on the Evo. For instance, they knocked the stock SMS and mail apps. On Day 1 I was on Handcent and GMail. They say the iPhone has the best keyboard. It does! But by day 3 I was using Swype. The fact that you can replace things you don't like on Android is a big selling point for me.

The iPhone has the better music player, though, and as far as I've found there is no answer on an Android phone. I currently use bTunes and it's good enough, but not great.

The cost of iphone ownership is just what kills it for me. The phones cost about the same but that $35 difference/month is huge over time. Add in tax and it could be closer to a $40 difference.

That may be true but not many people go beyond 200MB. You're either at home or in the office, where there is most likely wifi or a computer. If you spend most of your time anywhere else, the company should cover it.

That will not be true in the future.
You can see that data usage will explode as more and more "superphone" comes out.
I still see most people won't surpass the 2GB barrier but 200mb is just not enough(even for an evrage person).

Try DoubleTwist. It's really good and will sync you iTunes info as well. Personally I use mediamonkey and it works well with it as well.

I've had both phones (currently own the Evo) and you really can't go wrong with either one. The price difference is what tipped me over to the Evo. $51 a month for unlimited text, data, and 450 anytime + any mobile anytime is awesome.

Exactly we will just use more and more data as time goes on. 200MB is nothing at all. It's ridiculous.

That is what the carriers are banking on in the future. Their network is being overloaded by unlimited data users, who may very well represent 20% of the user base who use up 80% of the bandwidth, and that's why we see them backtracking as they realise what a huge huge mistake this is. Once smartphone penetration has reached a point of saturation they bank on laymen seeing data usage as an essential service and once they get hooked on that convenience then the carrier's maximum profit potential will have been reached.

According to my Verizon usage details, I use about 60MB a day right now on my Droid. This is mostly since the account is synced to Exchange at work. I don't even browse often or use Pandora like I have in the past.

Evo battery life kills it for me. I talk 4-5 hours a day. It's my job to talk to people.

Apple is best for me cause I can deal with a bumper and it has great battery life. But I hate data caps....like worrying about being on wifi before dling video and stuff.

meh...

Well, do you have an idea of your current data usage? My roommate used to stream pandora/airvideo/surf the web 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week for about a year and a half. He has, in the past 2.5 years, used 9.4GB.

So, i am just curious about your data usage such that 2GB/month is a concern.
