I just cut the green thermister away and shorted the wires for the 2 enermax thermo control fans in my case (AMD XP 1800+).
Noise level incresed significantly and temp. delta seems to have dropped down by ~2degC. (@ IDLE: old case/cpu = 26/54; new case/cpu = 26/52)
Is this worth the mod or should I twist and tape back the thermister? (I left a pair of wire stubs for each cut thermister incase I needed to reattach them.) I am concerned about the fan burning out since R=0 ohms right now (wires shorted and twisted up). Anyone know a Resistor value I could use with this fan and get the best cooling/power draw choice?
Unfortunately, there is no mention of how much power this fan draws and no listing on the enermax site either! So I don't know 2 of these modded fans on the motherboard 3-pin connectors will mean too much current draw for those connectors/MB rails.
Any help on this would be super! If I can get this resolved, next upgrade would be the Thermaltake Volcano 6cu upto a coolermaster HHC-001 or something. I don't understand why my idle temp. is SO high.
