Which is better for overclocking use, and which stays cooler?
An enermax 431 Watt or an Antec True430 Watt?

Also, do I have to have a 430W power supply for mild overclocking or would a 350W or 380W suffice?
I have an AthlonXP 1900+, some PC3200 DDR, a CD-RW, CD-ROM, Radeon 8500, Audigy Platinum, and 4 case fans running.

Flip a coin they are both good
but i feel that the antec is the best price/quality ratio and would get it if i was buying a psu
yeah i wouldn't go under 400watt's if you plan on overclocking a rig like that

I upgraded from an Enermax 431W to a TruePower 550. The 550 is a dream, dead silent and powerful as hell.

*dead* silent? I have an Enermax 431 and although it's by no measures loud, I sure would like a *dead* silent computer.

Well... Not DEAD silent, but quiet enough that several times I've not realized my PC was off & wondered why it wouldn't wake up.

ahh, ok. That's pretty close tho, I could never mistake my Enermax for being off when it wasn't.

Sweet, thanks.
If an elite member and a senior member like the antec then who am I to argue. :)
I'll get the Antec True430W then, or higher if I can afford it.

You shouldn't go cheap on parts like a PSU, go all out grab the Antec TruPower 550.:D

Ah, thanks again. I put myself on the auto notify list for it, but haven't even recieved an e-mail yet.
I guess word of mouth is faster than e-mail now a days. :)

I'll have to re-adjust some funds to get it though.
I originally was only planning on spending $60 max on a power supply, heheh.

I tried an enermax a few months ago cos many said they were extremely quiet, but when I bought one, it ended up being very loud.

the new antec truepower I put in though, is indeed amazingly quiet.

I just ordered the Antec True550, woohoo!
Thanks for the help everyone.
I'm sure I'll be happy with it, and I won't have to worry about not having enough power for a stable overclock. :)

Hi all,

Does psu with more watts generate more noise? I am more concern with noise than power.

I am thinking of putting together a new system. This is what I am thinking of gettingL

- Athlon XP 1800+
- A KT333 Mobo - still deciding
- ATI Radeon 8500
- 2 x 80GB Harddrive

I don't plan to overclock the system. I looked up the Antec TruePower 330, 380, 430 series in newegg and the price differences are not that bad. I know 330w is sufficient for the system I am going to build. Please advise if I should go for more power ?

Thanks

I would get the 380watt psu, that will more than suffice for now and will give you some extra for the future if you need any. The Truepower Antecs are pretty quiet. I have a 430watt and it's quieter than some of my older lower wattage psus of the past. I would say that all of the Truepowers should sound pretty close with negligible difference in sound cause of the way they are built, not cause of the power being put out.
