Enermax Marathon 80mm fan

Ordered one from Xiode on Wednesday, arrived via normal USPS mail on Friday. Shipping was cheap, saved me several dollars over Newegg.

I swapped it into my Rosewill R379 to replace the top exhaust fan. The included fan with the case was incredibly loud.

The enermax has this Enlobol bearing or whatnot and it actualy lives up to its claims. Now, I don't know if it's really running at 14dba as advertised, but *I* sure can't hear it. The airflow is quite good and it has significantly improved airflow over not running a fan at all.

So if anyone is contemplating this fan and looking for something really quiet, I'd say take a shot.

How's the airflow? My experience with 80mm fans is that they're either too noisy or don't move much air at all. I try to avoid them.

Yes it is a nice and quiet fan but in return you only get 24CFM (maybe). You'd have been better off just removing the offending fan and leaving it as a passive vent (personally, I'd block it off as there is little evidence that a blowhole contributes much to overall cooling) - counterintuitive but there you go... And Xoxide charges up to $3.00 more for it than other places.
. Just as an experiment, remove the Enlobal and block the vent (I use Saran Wrap and tape) and see what happens to your temps - I dare you... And take another set of readings as just a passive vent. Then let us know what your results were.

I did run it for about two weeks with no fan in the vent and the cpu temp was only slightly warmer. I totally could have gotten away without running the fan but the idea of having the extra exhaust did appeal to me. I did notice that without the fan, the top and sides of the case did get fairly warm to the touch. With the enermax fan, the case remains cold even when I've got Orthos running. I felt because the need for extra cooling was so low, the low cfm of the enermax fan made sense. You should have heard the previous fan -- it was so damn loud and pushed a ton of air, it was beyond excessive.

Sure, the air in the top of the case will stagnate a bit and the case top will a bit warmer as the heat is transferred by the metal instead of being carried away by moving air, but still the heat will get carried away with no significant difference to critical system temps. Besides, you,ll have a place to warm your hands in the winter and your cat will love it the rest of the time...
