Enermax Lib 620

As noted in reviews and user feedback mine is no different.

What is making that ZAP! noise when the power switch is engaged? It's kind of scary sounding. :Q

My obs are the same as others although the initial screech/zap is very noticeable. It could be louder as we're running the supply on 240 volts.

That would be my thought too. Are you using a line conditioner or UPS??
Is the ships power stable & reliable??

Yes there are outlets dedicated for sensitive hardware that are isolated from other "noisy" loads. The Dranetz monitoring system indicates the power is very clean, definitely better than any unfiltered utility mains power found onshore. 🙂

Hi,

I am from ENERMAX PM in Taiwan.

This sound actually is valid for all our active PFC ATX12V 2.2 PSU's. IE NOISETAKER II, LIBERTY & FMA II.
The sound arises when you do a cold start and is no malfunction at all. This is unavoidable, because we ignite the PFC.
Before we and other PSU manufacturers had always in stand-by mode +5Vsb and PFC active. We decided to kick PFC in stand-by. This increases efficiency from less than 20% for standby (zero load, just +5Vsb active from to more than 50%. So it saves you a lot of money. Now you know why before you never heard something like this. Because PFC was on and stand-by efficency low. And the ignition in any way causes such noise. So no chance to not have it. But since it is for your money and pretty silent and only half a second long, I hope you can accept it. 🙂

ok...so we have somebody from Enermax......
We also have somebody supposedly from Thermaltake who got his head handed to him on a platter...

believable or hmmmmm

Greetings from the Caribbean Sea. 😀

Interesting use of the word ignition. I tend not to use that word about something inside of my computer! Funny though now you mention this I'm familiar with a part called an ignitor in HID lighting and it makes the same noise. They're fun to play with too because they can deliver a powerful yet nearly harmless jolt.

Anyways, welcome to AT! 🙂

p.s. Don't mind the JEDI, apparently influence from the SITH at PCP&C has gotten his use of the force scrambled at times. 😉

Thank you sir. Noted and marked.
Enermax builds some of the better consumer grade PSUs and they are to be recomended.
The only real complaint is the 4pin Molex and SATA plugs being too close together at the
ends of the cabling. I do not run a Liberty but have noted this disappointment. A detail for
sure but one easily resolved.
I'm one of the few here crazy enough to crimp my own pins and make up cabling.
Enermax would do thier end-users well if they offered after market cabling for thier modular
PSUs. A cabling set that is very long for full towers or shorter sets for small or BTX cases.
Just a thought since you here.

Greetings from Anandtech Forums.

For ETERNITY design you can blame me personally. That was my idea 🙂
The advantage of Eternity comes, when you have mixed PATA & SATA drives. It gives no benefit when you have only either one. Therefore they are close together (5 cm). See them always as a pair. One drive per pair.
We are ware of such complaints, but please remind that the majority of users does have mixed drives. So we will keep ETERNITY standard.
If you insist on pure drives, we offer spare cables: EMC001 is 3 SATA and EMC002 is 3 PATA only.
And I can understand JEDI Yoda for being sceptical on my identity. In the internet anybody can post anything. Even that ENERMAX is not the best 🙂 So I don't mind.

Anyway, the sound concern has come up recently globally and we will release an edm next week on this issue to clarify. I absolutely agree that it can make somebody think there is something wrong. We did not expect such concerns and will try to communicate better in future.

Anyway thanks for using ENERMAX.
